Conference: #drugscience2017 – Research, practice, and global change in 21st century drug science

Henrik Jungaberle

The #drugscience2017-conference was located at Friedrich Kopsch Hörsaal, Waldeyer Haus, Institut für Anatomie, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Research, practice, and global change in 21st century drug science

“Drug Science” is emerging as a new and distinct meta-discipline. In this context, psychoactive substances are scientifically caught between a neurobiological, clinical pharmacological, psychotherapeutic, addiction medicine, social science, and political perspective. The #DrugScience2017 conference encourages the development of transdisciplinary approaches for further development of integrative “drug science”. Some of the questions we discussed:

  • What are the current innovations and challenges in the clinical treatment of addiction disorders?
  • What are the neuroscientific findings and research perspectives in the field of drug science? What new technologies may be available for prevention in the future?
  • To what extent may the use of serotonergic psychoactives play a role in the treatment of mental illness in the future?
  • What changes can be expected in national and global drug policy in the 21st century, and which are even necessary based on scientific evidence?
  • What influence does the Internet have on the trade in and availability of drugs? How is this changing attitudes in the population?

The combination of formerly separate fields of research has spurred a special dynamic between the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Join scientists and practitioners from the fields of addiction, prevention, neuroscience, and medicine to discuss where we are at the beginning of the 21st century and what should change.
